FIRE EXTINGUISHER SERVICES

fire extinguisher maintenance
The portable fire extinguishers in your facility are invaluable should a fire break out. Keeping up with the required inspections and maintenance will provide you with peace of mind and protection. At Metropolitan we are proud to be able to offer you these services:

Monthly Inspections: OSHA and NFPA 10 require that all extinguishers are visually inspected once a month. Should you not wish to perform these inspections yourself, we will:

  • Check for proper placement and ensure there are no obstructions.
  • Inspect all pressure gauges.
  • Make sure all parts – nozzle, hose, carriage and wheels – are in working order.
  • Perform a push test on any non-rechargeable extinguishers to ensure the indication is working properly.
  • Dust and grease removal of extinguisher control area and exterior.

Annual Service: Per NFPA 10 Standards, your extinguishers must be inspected professionally once a year. This inspection will include:

  • Fully inspect extinguisher systems and provide a written report.
  • Check pressure gauges.
  • Ensure that all units are current on required 6 and 12 year tests.
  • Check for obstructions in the discharge hose.
  • Make sure all safety seal and tamper indicators are in place.
  • Check weight and pressure of agents.

Six Year Service: Every 6 years dry chemical extinguishers are required to be emptied and recieve maintenance. DUring this service we will:

  • Break down extinguisher to check for damage.
  • Replace “O” ring.
  • Replace gasket.
  • Recharge the extinguisher.

Five & Twelve Year Testing: The NFPA requires that extinguishers are periodically pressure tested (also called hydrostatic testing). For pressurized wet chemical, water and carbon dioxide extinguishers this is every 5 years. For dry chemical extinguishers, testing is required every 12 years. During testing our technicians perform:

  • Hydrostatic testing.
  • Complete break down and emptying of extinguisher.
  • Test cylinder for defects or damage.
  • Recharge the extinguisher.
